Annual Sewa Month at Pannabai Shakha 2011

As an annual ritual Sevikas from Woolwich Pannabhai Shakha took part in our “Sewa Month.” Ask yourself this question: if you needed an organ transplant would you refuse? So, are you an organ donor? If the answer is ‘no’ to both questions then change it- become a donor. Registering as an organ donor online takes just four minutes.  This is one of the focuses we had during our Sewa month, reflecting how broad the sewa of donation is.

At the beginning each of the Sevikas set themselves personal aims to complete by the end of the month which the majority managed to complete, whilst some even over achieved. Sevikas involved themselves in a range of activities from regularly visiting the mandir to selling homemade cakes and traditional Indian food at local Gujarati Classes.

A group of Sevikas (which included Gruhinis) successfully completed the ‘Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge’ and have vowed to return next year, hopefully with a bigger team. Donating money to charity is important however, we should not forget the priceless value of positive actions no matter how small, which in most circumstances do not cost anything.  Just think…what could you do to make the place we live a better place for all?

South East Vibhaag's Outing To The Museum

Museum

April the 23rd 2011 was a day not to forget as South East Vibhag went on a trip to visit the Horniman Museum. With sevikas as young as 7 attending, alongside with the grohinis, it was definitely a fun and sunny day out.

The trip was packed with games as well as educational activities. We started of with a group activity which was like a treasure hunt within the museum and then moved on to a picnic which everyone enjoyed the most - after all who wouldn’t enjoy food! The winnings teams in the treasure hunt also got an Easter egg which proved as a great treat for lunch. After lunch we played some fun games which got very competitive as always, but nevertheless it was enjoyable!

I believe that it would be a great day out for those who love animals, insects, African culture and music. I think that having activities such as the vibhag outing is good, as it helps youngsters like me interact with other sevikas from different shakhas. It’s more fun as you are able to mingle not with just the baal and sishu but the older sevikas too.
